Allergy Symptoms

Do you think that you are troubled by an Allergy? If you do, you might be searching for some answers.

Some people think that they don't require medical aid if they're capable of diagnosing themselves. Whilst this may be true in some cases, you should only ever consider it if your  Allergy Symptoms are not serious.

In most cases, if you believe that you have an Allergy you should obtain medical advice.

Food Allergy & Food Intolerance Symptoms

Determine if it's a Food Allergy or a Food Intolerance.

A food Allergy is caused by a reaction from your body's Immune System, whereas a food Intolerance is a reaction from your body's digestive system.

See the pages on Food Allergy & Food Intolerance for more information. They each have slightly different symptoms, with the Immune System reactions being the most severe.

Immune System responses (Food Allergy) generally tend to be quicker and stronger and include
- Swelling up of the throat
- Asphyxiating (choking)
- Vomiting
- Loss of breath (difficulty breathing)
- Loss of conscienceness (black out)
- Skin rash
- Hives (itchy lumps)
- Diarrhoea and stomach cramps

The most dangerous Immune Sysyem reaction is when a person goes into Anaphylactic shock. Anaphylactic shock can kill in a matter of minutes if it is not treated.

Digestive System responses (Food Intolerance) can be less severe and include
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Diarrhoea (loose bowels)
- Stomach ache (belly ache)
- Flatulence (Gas)

All other Allergies

These include Allergies to Pets, Dust Mites, Cocaroaches, Pollen, Grass, Hay Fever, Cigarette Smoke, Latex-Rubber, etc.

A lot of Allergy sufferers may only get mild to moderate Allergy Symptoms when experiencing an Allergic response.

Mild common Allergy Symptoms include
- Chest congestion
- Itchy and or watery eyes
- Skin rash.

Moderate common Allergy Symptoms tend to include all of the mild common symptoms plus
- An itchy feeling over most of the body
- Difficultly breathing.

A lot of mild to moderate Allergy Symptoms can be cared for at home, without a visit to a physician's office or a hospital. You can try some of the natural remidies or ordinary over-the-counter remedies or better still have a talk with your local pharmacist.

You should always look for medical treatment if you find that you are having difficulty breathing or if you find that your Allergy Symptoms are either not responding to your treatment or are simply getting worse. If you do seek medical advice you may be required to undertake several tests to determine the cause and strength of your Allergy. See our Allergy Tests page for further information on this subject.
